POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES

 


The Director of the Small Business Development Center reports to the College President and is responsible for management of an SBDC Regional Center, effective provision of services to local small businesses, and program and fiscal compliance with New York State, State University, host institution and SBA requirements. The Director will provide reports on a regular basis with respect to the Center’s operation – including budget, expenditure plans, personnel administration, facilities utilization and related topics.

Initiate and maintain contact with the business community as well as other related public and private entities to promote program services and to elicit funding support to broaden and enhance outreach services. Establish contacts and interface with advisory groups; sponsor or co-sponsor appropriate training events, seminars and conferences.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 


The position requires a bachelor’s degree and no less than six years of relevant business experience (private sector business experience and at least 2 years managerial experience preferred). The degree should be in the area of public administration, management, finance or a business related field; a master’s degree is preferred

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following;

• A comprehensive knowledge of business operations and practices and the capacity to optimize the utilization of staff for the purposes of counseling and training clients engaged in small business enterprise.
• An understanding of campus fiscal policies, SBDC Lead Center, State, Federal fiscal policies.
• Excellent communications skills and the ability to interact with audiences of varied knowledge and expertise.
• Ability to represent the program and sponsors in settings that require professional presentations (such as press conferences, news articles and other media recorded events).
